JACKSON, Tenn. – In just 14 hours, Jackson police made 39 arrests during the saturation called “Operation Checkmate 1.” The operation included every Jackson police officer on staff; that’s more than 200 officers on the streets fighting crime in the city’s most troubled areas. Officers say during the saturation, three guns, felony amounts of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine were taken off the streets. The zero-tolerance effort included more than 152 warrant checks and 86 traffic violations, which brought the total for violations to a 112. “Hopefully, it will let citizens of Jackson know we are here, working, trying to keep the citizens safe,” said Officer David White. Police said the city’s continued success in the war on crime will take a community effort, and this will not be their last saturation. Madison County Deputies, State Troopers, U.S. Marshals, and Madison County Probation and Parole officers also took part. “Fourteen hours. That many different areas of impact we made in our community. What can we do as a community of 68,000, seven days a week, 24 hours a day of we all get involved?” asked Chief Gill Kendrick.
