Local BBQ restaurant featured on national television
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — B.E. Scott’s BBQ in Lexington hits the nationwide SEC network for a cooking segment on their TrueSouth series to show off their culinary talents and southern style.
TrueSouth, a James Beard award-nominated limited series on the SEC network, showcases southern food and culture. TrueSouth’s host John Edge travels to many southern gems and makes a stop right here in West Tennessee at B. E. Scotts BBQ in Lexington.
“We filmed for a few days. You know the filming process isn’t very difficult, you know, you go through cuts and let’s redo that because you’re going to mess up according to being on camera but I’ve always enjoyed it,” said Zach Parker, owner of B.E. Scott’s BBQ.
We asked the owner what’s the most popular item on the menu.
“A pulled pork sandwich. Make sure you put slaw on it because, as Pat Martin says, ‘that’s the way God intended,'” said Zach.
B. E. Scott’s BBQ has been cooking barbecue ‘their way’ since 1962.
“The business was passed down to Zach’s dad when Mr. Early Scott retired and then, after Zach’s dad passed away, it was passed to Zach. So he just really grew up in the barbecue business, you know, learning how to cook hogs and that kind of thing,” said Taneal Parker, Zach’s wife.
Taneal tell us the characteristics that make him stand out in the community.
“He is very determined and driven and he has come so far, and I’m just proud of the man that he is,” said Tanael.
The TrueSouth series, now in its sixth season, revolves around two food stories told from one place, which TrueSouth sets in conversation to make larger points about southern beliefs and identities. Residents of Lexington are not shy to admit this BBQ joint is worthy of all its many awards and accolades.
“People in Lexington really go above and beyond to support me and I couldn’t be any prouder to be from Lexington,” said Zach.
B. E. Scott’s BBQ is located at Highway 412 West in Lexington.
