2024 Election: What’s on the ballot in West Tennessee

JACKSON, Tenn. — With celebrity endorsements and campaign ads focusing on the presidential and senate races, we’re shining a spotlight on what else is on the ballot for local voters.

HARDIN & CROCKETT COUNTY

Voters in Hardin and Crockett counties will notice there are items on the ballot that will affect things closer to home. Hardin County residents will have the opportunity to vote for Tennessee House of Representatives in District 71, the candidates are the incumbent Kip Capley and Tim Coy.

Along with that, voters in Adamsville will have the chance to vote for or against the sale of alcoholic beverages at retail package stores. As well as the legal sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption. If voters vote for either of these referendums, the voter is agreeing that restaurants and bars should sell mixed drinks, wines, and beers to be consumed on site and the sale of packaged wines, liquor and beer during the designated times and days.

For residents of Saltillo, a mayoral election is also on the ballot. Current Mayor Gregory Billings and David Willis are the candidates.

Finally, in Crockett County, the Town of Alamo will have the chance to vote for or against a referendum regarding alcohol consumption on the premises.

MADISON, GIBSON & CARROLL COUNTY

Starting in Madison County, the Tennessee House of Representatives District 80 position is on the ballot. Running for this position is incumbent Johnny Shaw and Brad Grantham.

In Carroll County residents can vote for their district 76 representative. The incumbent Tandy Darby and James Hurt are both running for this title.

In Huntingdon the town’s mayor position is on the ballot. Current Mayor Nina Smothers and Chad Edwards are both options for residents to choose.

In Gibson County, the mayor for the City of Dyer is on the ballot with current Mayor Chris Younger as a candidate as well as Jim Hesse.

For residents of Medina, the mayor position is also on the ballot. Scottie Betts and Sammy Giley are both running as independents.

Finally in the town of Rutherford, there are three mayoral candidates including current Mayor Sandra Simpson, James Roach, and Eddie Watkins.

Thursday, October 31 will mark the last day of early voting in Tennessee.

During Election Day on Tuesday, November 5 voters will have to cast their ballot at their designated voting precinct location.
