Sidewalk art project to be installed in downtown Jackson, volunteers needed

OUR JACKSON HOME ANNOUNCES ARTIST COURTNEY SEARCY CHOSEN FOR SIDEWALK ART AND OPENS OPPORTUNITIES FOR VOLUNTEERS

Jackson, Tenn (November 4, 2024): Our Jackson Home and the City of Jackson will be partnering to install a sidewalk art project that will take place in Downtown Jackson from November 11th through November 22nd. Local artist, Courtney Searcy, was chosen from a group of applicants as the artist for the sidewalk art project by members of the City of Jackson’s Public Art Commission.

“Being near the Farmers Market and theLOCAL, the art was designed to represent spring, summer, winter, and fall – and all the ways that we enjoy those seasons in West Tennessee. It includes imagery nodding to the makers and farmers that bring us all the good stuff that makes something like a Saturday at the Farmer’s Market such an anchor for community life in Downtown Jackson,” Courtney Searcy said.

The sidewalk art installation will be located on two corners of West Lafayette Street, directly in front of theLOCAL and Grace Media Group. The goals of this temporary public art installation are to beautify the area of the Arts District, encourage walkability, provide opportunities for the community to participate in public art, support local talent, and strengthen Jackson’s cultural

identity. The artwork is considered temporary due to frequent pedestrian traffic, but is expected to last for many years.

Courtney Searcy is a graphic designer and the owner of Fine Co., her branding and design studio. She graduated from Union University in 2014 and has spent the last ten years creating branding, illustrations, and more in the Jackson community.

To bring Courtney Searcy’s art to the sidewalks, Our Jackson Home is calling on community volunteers to assist in the installation process. Community members ages 13 and over can sign up to volunteer Courtney in transforming the downtown sidewalks into a colorful public art display. Volunteers simply need to be willing to lend a hand, with no previous art experience required. Volunteer shifts are as follows: Monday, Nov. 11th – 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13th – 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16th – 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and Tuesday, Nov. 19th – 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
