Ribbon cutting in Haywood County celebrates new Head Start facility

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house was held Wednesday for the new “Haywood County Head Start.”

The facility features five classrooms with three additional classrooms for expansion. There are two playgrounds as well as employee and guest parking. The facility is fully handicapped accessible and features a secure entry system.

It’s the first head start in the nation to offer the Alpha Alert system.

“We’re very excited about this facility. It gives us room to offer community trainings, community events, parent meetings — we have small rooms for one-on-one sessions, then we have several breakout areas for larger sessions,” said Gary Gober, director for Southwest HRA Head Start.

This new facility replaces the historic College Hill and Brownsville Head Starts which served the community for more than 40 years.
