Collection hosted to fill local Blessing Boxes

JACKSON, Tenn.—A collection drive is hosted in Jackson to support those in need.

Saturday, residents had the opportunity to drop off needed items for local blessing boxes.

The collection took place at 7:30 until 10:30 in the morning at the parking lot of the Kroger located at 41 Stonebrook Place.

The West TN Healthcare-Pathways Satellite Clinic bus was on site to be filled with the donated items.

Items requested included both perishable and some non-perishable items like hygiene care.

According to coordinators, some of the items most needed include canned foods, beef jerky, drinks like bottled water or juice, and snacks like peanut butter crackers.

Other items like toothbrushes and toothpaste are also considered in high demand.

“These boxes are at various places. There is close to 20. They’re filled by volunteers with food, hygiene items, things like that, that anyone can walk up to and take an item. It’s anonymous, no one knows who goes. We try to fill them at least two to three times a week but they are emptied almost immediately,” said Paula Terry, Chief Nursing Officer for Pathways Behavioral Health.

All of the items collected will be used to fill up Blessing Boxes located in Jackson.
