JSCC spreads holiday cheer

JACKSON, Tenn.—A local college spreads holiday cheer handing out gifts to West TN families.

Members of the Jackson State Community College Athletics Department hosted its first-ever Toy Drive Saturday.

The event took place from 9 Saturday morning until around 1 in the afternoon in the parking lot of the college.

Members of various school athletic teams wore festive holiday costumes and handed out presents to local families. The elves even helped to load the gifts into vehicles.

This event was created to bridge the gap between the college and its 10-county community of families it serves by supporting them this holiday season.

In support of this event, the college also invited local residents and businesses to make toy donations, so the school could help as many families as possible.

“The toy drive is our Inaugural Toy Drive . This was the first year that we’ve ever done it here. I’m proud to say that we are for sure going to be bringing this back for future years. I had the opportunity to serve 200 hundred children and over a hundred families today, just by way of giving toys from children anywhere from newborn to seventeen-years-old,” said Kevin Lynum, Director of Athletics at Jackson State Community College.

As a way to support the toy drive, the school also offered free admission to its basketball games through Saturday, with the donation of an unopened toy for ages newborn to 17.
