Severe Storm Threat Wednesday Morning, Cold the Rest of the Week!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Strong and probably some severe storms will move through West Tennessee overnight tonight. Latest forecast model guidance and from what we are seeing by the current position of the cold front, we are expecting the storm line to not impact West Tennessee until between 3-4am at the earliest. The line still will be strong and likely produce a few severe thunderstorms. Gusty winds will be the main threat but a 2% tornado chance still exists for most of the us. The timing for the line to come through Jackson right now looks to be between 7-8am. 1-3″ of rain on top of saturated grounds and the combination of strong storm winds will take some trees down and likely lead to some power outages on Wednesday. These storms will impact your morning commute!

Please have a way to be alerted to severe weather overnight that may develop, keep the alerts up on your phones and be sure to watch Good Morning West Tennessee with Moe and Brian tomorrow morning as the storms are rolling through! I will have the latest hour by hour forecast breakdown as well coming up tonight at 5 on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News.

THIS WEEK:
Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms moved through West Tennessee Monday evening before clearing out after 10pm. We saw some intense heavy rain, lightning and some gusty winds but overall our severe weather threat was low. That threat appears to be a little higher overnight tonight into Wednesday morning. We are again under a level 1/5 (marginal risk) for severe weather tonight into Wednesday morning but there is a 2% for a tornado warning to be issued in your area though this time unlike Monday evenings storms.

We will be tracking these storms all night long the 7 Storm Team Weather Center. It has been a warm and humid Tuesday as well and the warm and humid weather will be sticking around until Wednesday afternoon across the mid south. Cooler and drier weather will move in on Thursday and stick around for the back half of the work week and last through the weekend.

We started our Tuesday in the upper 40s but Tuesday highs rebounded back to around 60° as the winds shifted slowly to the southeast during the day and will be breezy at times Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. We saw partly cloudy skies early Tuesday with some early sunshine but the clouds will be thick overnight. Tuesday night will be warm and stay in the mid to upper 50s all night. This will set the state for another round of showers possible gusty storms Tuesday night that will continue into the day on Wednesday.

We could be upgraded from a marginal to a slight risk (2/5) for severe storms Wednesday morning, but as of now, we are still under a level 1/5 (marginal risk). The storms will be very similar to the ones we saw on Monday evening but could be stronger a few may try to rotate producing a brief spin up tornado, but that is not the main threat. The main threats will be gusty winds and potential flooding. Wednesday highs will reach up to around 60° for the first part of the day but drop quickly behind the front in the evening. We should fall down to around the mid 30s by Thursday morning. Any rain and storms on Wednesday should move out Wednesday night starting a cold and dry spell to move in.

Thursday highs will only reach up to around 50° but we will see mostly sunny skies. The winds will come out of the northwest on Thursday and stay out of the north on Friday as well. Thursday night lows will be chilly again and drop down to around the freezing mark of 32°. Friday is going to be a very cold day as the arctic air will begin to funnel back on it. Friday will be mostly sunny, but highs will only reach the low 40s and Friday night lows will drop back down to the low 20s again. We will be dry Thursday and Friday but it is going to be cold both days.
THE WEEKEND:
Winter officially kicks off on Saturday at 3:21am (the winter solstice) and it is going to feel very winter-like this weekend. The weekend is going to start out quite chilly for all of the Mid South. Saturday morning lows in West Tennessee will be in the low 20s and highs on Saturday will only make it up to around 40° again. We will see mostly sunny skies this weekend but it will feel quite winter-like for both days. Sunday morning temperatures will start out again in the low to mid 20s and highs on Sunday, just like Saturday will only reach the low 40s at best. The winds will come out of the north all weekend long keeping our temperatures down. We will be dry this weekend but the next chances for rain and maybe some storms will be back Monday into Tuesday next week.
