Storms Expected Up North Thursday Evening, HOT Friday, Wet Saturday!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for counties northwest of Madison until 10pm tonight. Large hail and gusty winds will be the main threat. We are tracking several cells producing large hail in Missouri, Kentucky and Northern Arkansas. These storms are strong and are tracking to the east. There is some uncertainty as to how far south these storms are going to break the cap over the next few hours but areas north of I-40 need to stay weather aware this evening and early tonight. We should be mostly dry and hot on Friday before another round of showers pass through on Saturday. Cooler weather is coming in on Sunday. Catch the latest right here.

THIS WEEK:

If you are watching us in Lake, Obion, Weakley, & Henry counties, storms will likely move through your counties this evening. If you are in Dyer, Gibson and Carroll counties, your chances are pretty good as well, especially if you are in the northern sections of those counties. South of those counties, like Crockett, Haywood, Madison, Henderson and Chester, your chances are less than 50% tonight. There is a lot of uncertainty as to how far south the storms will develop over the next few hours tonight. The areas most likely to get the rain actually need it the most as those areas are under an extreme drought right now. If you do not get in on the action tonight, most of us will get wet on Saturday.

Our best shot for rain during the workweek is coming in on Thursday. All of West Tennessee is under at least a 1/5 (marginal risk) and some of our counties near the Mississippi River are under a slight risk (2/5). We will keep a close eye on the setup as the tonight as a few gusty wind and hail storms are expected this evening and early night time hours. Chances for rain sit at 60% and hopefully we all see a good soaking because we really do need the rain as the drought situation is getting worse by the day. Highs reached the low 80s and the winds stayed out of the south. The front itself will not pass through so do not expect to cool off until the weekend.

Friday morning lows will start out in the low to mid 60s depending on if the clouds on Thursday will linger into the morning. By the afternoon, sunny skies will return and highs will get very close to 90°. We have not hit 90° since October 1st, almost 200 days ago. Friday night is going to be warm as well with overnight lows falling down to only around 70°. Friday will likely be the warmest day of the year so far for most of us. There is a slight chance for a couple isolated showers in the afternoon but chances are only 20%. Those chances are the highest near the Tennessee River.

THIS WEEKEND:

Another round of showers and storms appears to be on the way for Saturday. Storms are looking likely at this time but the severe weather situation is still being determined and we should know more later during the week. Expect a mostly cloudy day on Saturday with rain chances starting in the afternoon and continuing into the evening hours. The winds will start out of the southwest but will turn to the northwest by Sunday morning. Unlike Thursday’s system, the front will actually move through this time cooling things off a bit for Sunday.

Highs on Saturday will reach the mid 80s but we may struggle to even make it up to 70° on Sunday. Saturday night temperatures will fall down to around 50° but mid 40s are expected Sunday night. Sunday night will be the coolest weather we have seen in a couple weeks by the time it gets here. The northerly winds will not last long though as a southeast breeze will look to return by next Monday.
