Jackson Police Officer On Trial

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Jackson police officer Robbie Weems is on trail for misconduct and theft under $500. During opening arguments this afternoon, prosecutors said that dashcam video shows that, during a traffic stop shortly after 3 a.m. on October 21, 2012, a driver was pulled over for driving with no head lights. Officer Weems conducted a pat down of a passenger and removed $200 from his pocket. The defense stated that the money was returned and it the video shows the money being returned. Police began investigating the theft allegation against Weems after at least one other officer on the stop reported the alleged incident to his superiors. The trial is expected to last through Wednesday. Weems is suspended without pay from his position with the police department. Weems has been a Jackson Police Officer since June 1993.
