MLK Jr. Remembered on 50th Anniversary of March of Washington

JACKSON, Tenn. — Students at Jackson State Community College remembered Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years after his “I Have a Dream Speech” Wednesday. Students on the campus are a buzz about the anniversary. “His speech to me is really remarkable considering how things were before he made the speech and after he made his speech,” said Cherelle Middlebrook, a student. Andrew Kelley is a Professor of English at Jackson State Community College. “I think he would want African-Americans to take advantage of the opportunities available to them,” Kelley said. “He would like to see I believe parents do what they did during his time.” “It’s a good thing for everybody to be together and come to college instead of different races going to this college and that college, Kendall White, a student said. “It’s a good thing for all of us to come together and become friends.” “He spoke out to the whole country and showed everybody that we are equal, Jonathan Coy, a student said. “He did something that most people wouldn’t have the courage to do, speak out.”
