MCNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. – A West Tennessee man is behind bars, accused of stealing from a local family. The family’s home security system helped catch the suspected criminal. Minutes after allegedly stealing the items, the man was confronted by the homeowner. “I was so close to him that if he’d wanted to do anything, he could’ve grabbed me,” said homeowner Sandi Richard. “I just used common sense and said don’t panic, don’t freak him out, don’t corner him.” Richard said the thief ran away and at first they did not think anything was stolen, but they decided to take a second look using their security cameras. “We look around and don’t see anything missing, and then he (Steve Richard) said wait a minute, I have him on video,” said Richard. A man, identified by the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department as Jamie King of Selmer, was seen on the security cameras stealing a generator, a chainsaw, and a battery. King is now jailed on charges of felony theft of property, burglary, and criminal trespassing. “I’m glad we have proof,” said Richards. “I mean he couldn’t deny that it was him because we had proof right there on the camera that he did it.” The Richards said they enjoy the feeling of comfort that their security system gives them. And in this case, it helped solve a crime.
