Students Compete to Raise Cans for RIFA

JACKSON, TN. – The Bruin vs. Lion RIFA Challenge Cup is underway and its third year. University School of Jackson and Trinity Christian Academy have been collecting cans for the less fortunate for the past two weeks. The results will be revealed at half-time of the football game Friday night. Katie Tillman is a Trinity student, “Obviously we want to beat USJ in the canned food drive, but we want to get a bunch of cans so people without food because we are all so blessed here so we just want to spread our blessings.” A short drive from Trinity, USJ senior Ali Graham was busy getting the canned goods ready for pick up. “I want to be able for the freshmen and sophomores to see how awesome this is and how much we can do so they will be able to step up next year,” Graham said. USJ won the RIFA Challenge Cup in 2011, but Trinity won the trophy last year. This year both schools are trying to raise 22,000 pounds of food. If the goal is reached, one person from both schools will have to kiss a pig or a goat. Stuart Hirstein USJ Head of School said, “Well evidently I have been told one of things I will do is kiss a pig which I am OK with.” Todd Miller, Trinity Director of Student Ministries said, “It’s a healthy competition between us and USJ because when you have that incentive to try and beat the other, school kids are going to bring a lot of cans and the ultimate purpose is to really bless RIFA.”
