Generals Park Gets New Field

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Generals can now look forward to playing on a new turf. Work is underway Thursday for a brand new baseball field at Generals Park. The original field was installed in 1998, but over the years rain water caused major drainage problems. The City of Jackson approved $190,000 for the project. Tri Turf out of Paris, Tenn. was on the field today stripping the top layer of sod. The general manager of the team, Jason Compton says they plan to start from scratch. “Right now they’re cutting that layer so that it can be used and then next week, next Tuesday they’re gonna come in and get rid of all that organic matter until you get about four inches down and you’ll be able to see the sand and then we’ll have it all up,” said Compton. Warner’s Athletic Construction is the contractor. The Sportsplex next to the field will get the leftover sod. Fans can expect to see the turf in April 2014.
