Jackson’s Neighborhood Academy to return this April

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local program started to help Hub City residents is returning this spring.

Neighborhood Academy will begin in April. There will be one, two-hour session per month until November when leaders say they will hold the closing session and graduation.

The meetings will be on the second Tuesday of the month. The preference of the majority of the applicants will determine the time. Applicants must attend six of the eight sessions to complete the program.

“The overarching goal is, you know, we have anywhere from 10 to 30 people do it, and the hope is that those 20 people will go out to their neighbors, their family members, their friends and be able to answer the questions and be advocates for city departments,” said Claire Pierson, community development coordinator for the City of Jackson.

Each monthly meeting will focus on different areas of local government and how residents can participate in city processes. It will serve as a way to build trust and empower residents to influence city decisions, programs and policies. By the end, new neighborhood champions across the city will know how to effect change.
