Upcoming projects, potential grants for Selmer discussed during meeting
SELMER, Tenn. — One local town has voted on new plans for their residents.
We had the opportunity to speak with Mayor Sherry Inman as she and Selmer’s aldermen vote on new resolutions.
“Southwest Tennessee will help us get this grant and administrate it and also it will help us rehab a lot of homes in the town of Selmer. So, we’re looking forward to that. Hopefully, this is going to help us revive our town and take us to the next level,” said Mayor Inman.
Aldermen voted to pass the resolution of the 2025 Homeowners Rehabilitation Program with Southwest Tennessee. At this time, the homes that will be developed are unknown but will be selected at a later time.
Selmer’s fire chief has proposed a grant that will bring new firemen to their team. Aldermen voted in favor of this grant.
“Our fire chief is going to apply for the SAFER grant. This is also going to help us get fire fighters, hopefully 3, this year when we get the grant. So this is going to help us equip those fire fighters and our tax payers and our citizens in Selmer, Tennessee,” said Mayor Inman.
Recently, the police building in Selmer was torn down to usher in a new building. This building was over 100 years old.
“Hopefully, in about 3 to 4 months, we’ll see the police building go up. They have been in city hall in the back. It is a crunch area for them. They will be able to have a welcoming area for people to come in to talk to officers. Also, we’ll have a conference room, so we are very excited for that to be in our city as well,” said Mayor Inman.
With new improvements coming into Selmer, Mayor Inman shares how it feels to lead these projects to the community.
“It makes me feel good for my community. I love where I live, I’ve been here since I was two years old; I was brought up here,” said Mayor Inman.
Mayor Inman is hopeful for these grants to be accepted in Selmer so their town may continue to flourish.
