US Marshal Tyreece Miller speaks on arrest of previously deported man

GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A news release was published from the U.S. Marshal’s following a recent arrest.

It states that the U.S. Marshal’s led Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, as well as Homeland Security, arrested Jose Alfredo Melendez-Hernandez.

Melendez-Hernandez was deported from the United States in 2009 following a conviction for sexual battery in Texas.

It was determined that he was now residing in Gibson County, and failed to register as a sex offender.

He was arrested Wednesday morning and was transported to the U.S. Courthouse in Jackson.

We spoke with U.S. Marshal Tyreece Miller to learn more about the situation.

“We as a public, the community has a right to know where he lives. You can go onto the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry and you can search by county, and you can find out who is in your area and who’s been convicted of sex offenses. That law is in place for a purpose,” Miller said.

Because his offenses occurred in another state, these are now federal charges.
