JACKSON, Tenn. — National Caregivers Day on the third Friday in February honors the healthcare professionals across the country providing long-term care and hospice care.

Dedicated healthcare professionals provide vital services, reassuring patients and the families who care about them. Expert caregivers are trained to provide around-the-clock services in safe environments.

Their care enables the family to focus on their loved one’s healing process. In hospice care, a caregiver allows the family to spend time with their loved one without worrying about medical responsibilities.

“Caregiving is hard, and we want to acknowledge that but it can also be very rewarding. Find the glimmers in the day that allow you to still experience joy with the person you’re caring for,” said Natalie Elliot Handy, co-host of Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver podcast.

Their advice for caregivers is to build a team for support. This can include family, friends, and to broaden your circle to experts at CVS Specialty for additional assistance. An advocate from CVS Specialty helped their family manage a tremendous burden, uncovering a clerical error, and they have since become an integral part of their caregiving journey.

The celebration recognizes caregivers who provide quality, compassionate care every day.
