HENDERSON CO. Tenn.- Former Lexington Mayor, David Jowers, is happy to be elected for the position again, after he left office more than ten years ago. Jowers snagged the election Thursday night against current Mayor Tim Pierce getting 68 percent of voters. “It’s overwhelming to me to see that the voters of Lexington felt like I could move the city forward again,” Jowers told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the morning after the election. Lexington residents said they wanted to see Jowers back in office after he left in 1999. “He did an excellent job when he was mayor,” said Howard Douglass. “I think people looking for that.” Jowers told us his main focus as newly elected mayor, will be bringing back jobs to the city. “Sometimes you have problems with minimum wage jobs,” said Jowers. “It’s hard to make a living on minimum wage! We’re looking for manufacturing jobs and better paying jobs.” Jowers will start the job on October the 1st. We were unable to reach current Mayor Pierce for comment on the election.
