JACKSON, Tenn. – The West Tennessee State Fair is underway with a new look and attitude. Fair officials said this year could make a difference in whether the West Tennessee Fair continues on. One family told 7 Eyewitness News that not having to pay for extra for many of the activities once they were inside the gate allowed them to bring their whole family to the fair. West Tennessee State Fair officials said the last few years have been rough and this year’s turn-out is crucial and could determine if the West Tennessee tradition continues. “Maybe we let our guard down a little, but not this year. We are ten times better than last year,” said fair manager Mike Peery. Peery added that extra attention has been placed on the safety of rides and they have worked hard to create a more family-friendly atmosphere. Fair directors promise this to be their biggest year yet, with lots of new exhibits and free activities once you come inside the door. Fair goers seemed to notice the change. “I have noticed on the schedule that there are several tractor pulls going on this week,” said Mary Truett. Peery hopes everyone will walk out of the fairgrounds looking forward to next year and keeping the West Tennessee State Fair a tradition here in Jackson.
