Trezevant Medical Clinic Closing Down

CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn.- Residents in Trezevant told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News they are facing a great loss as soon as the city’s only medical clinic moves out of town to set up shop in McKenzie. “Well it’s just going to be hard for the citizens here in town. It’s really something we need to keep in town for all of the older people,” said resident Joe Weatherford. According to Trezevant’s Mayor Dennis Mitchell, West Carroll Medical Clinic is leased by McKenzie Regional Hospital. City leaders said clinic administrators recently decided to not re-sign its lease in the Trezevant location. Officials said the clinic plans to relocate its operations to McKenzie on or before November 24. Residents told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that the clinic has served the city of nearly 900 people for more than 10 years, and many said they do not want to see the clinic move away. “It’s the people in this town that needs the health care that might not be able to go to McKenzie or Milan at that time when they need to go. So, think about people in the town first,” said resident Hank Lenox. Mayor Mitchell said the city is actively searching for a new practitioner to operate the clinic. Residents said after the clinic closes down, until a replacement is found they will be forced to drive outside of the city limits for health care. “We’re going to have to drive a lot further,” said resident Jenna Leidig. “It’s going to suck for people who depend on this. It’s really going to be horrible for some people.” “Taking our only clinic away from us, it’s kind of makes you feel isolated and alone,” said Lenox. WBBJ was unable to reach McKenzie Regional Hospital for comment. Hospital officials did release a statement to the Mayor’s office about the clinic. “McKenzie Clinic Corp. continually evaluates the services we offer and allocates resources to meet the greatest community needs. To ensure our long-term health, we are committed to effective and efficient operations so that patients can continue to count on us for quality health care,” said Michael Morrical, Chief Executive Officer McKenzie Clinic Corp. Hospital officials said they are currently working with patients to transfer care to McKenzie offices. According to Mayor Mitchell, the the nearest clinic outside of the city’s limits is about 15 minutes away.
