Haywood Co. Commission discusses new school building, more in recent meeting
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — The Haywood County Commission meeting was held Monday at 6 p.m. in Brownsville.
The commission voted on several resolutions concerning Haywood County schools as well as a mutual aid agreement between Brownsville and Lexington ambulance services. No resolution failed on the floor Monday evening, but some were deferred to committee.
Two major votes that passed were resolutions that would bring a new school building to Brownsville. The first of the two votes was to approve an application for Haywood County to borrow $5 million from the USDA to acquire the land and begin surveying the land to see what is suitable to build on the land.
“It authorizes the purchase of the land and doing all of the prep work associated with the core borings to make sure the land is satisfactory,” said Haywood County Mayor David Livingston.
One such resolution was deferred is a mutual aid agreement with ambulance services of Lexington. Mayor David Livingston is confident the vote will pass once it makes it back to the county commission for a vote.
The vote was deferred to the public safety committee. The high school will move to the new building and the middle school will move to the current high school building.
A resolution supporting Ford Motor Company’s SK BlueOval City project passed and Mayor Livingston will be meeting with representative David Kustoff and Senators Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn about this in Washington very soon.
