JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Police arrested an Assistant Professor of English at Lane College for solicitation of a minor, Wednesday. Officers said Kenneth Andrews, 64, was arrested at the Walgreens located at the corner of Campbell St. and North Highland Ave. around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. “It’s a little frustrating because they’re supposed to be our leaders,” said student Dominique Harrison. “It kind of makes you feel like, are you really safe?” Police said Andrews went to the Walgreens expecting to meet a teen boy that he met online. But instead of the teen, officers with the department’s Special Investigations Bureau were there to arrest him. “It could have been a student that he tried to get. Some students up here are not even 18 yet. They have graduated young so I mean they’re all babies. He’s a grown man after babies to me,” said one student. WBBJ tried to speak with Lane College administration, but were told to leave the area. However investigators tell us Lane has suspended Andrews pending the investigation. Students said this and a recent shooting on campus are distraction they don’t need. “We’re just students trying to better ourselves with the power of potential, like you see posted everywhere on this campus,” said student Justin Staten. “We shouldn’t have to worry about that as students at school. We should be able to come get our education and we shouldn’t have to worry about somebody preying on our innocence.” “We come up here and it’s hard to focus because we don’t know who to trust now,” said one student. “We’re supposed to trust these people to teach us and they out here trying to get kids it’s not right.” Andrews was booked into the Madison County Jail. He will appear in Jackson City Court Thursday at 8 a.m. on a charge of solicitation of a minor. Anyone with information about adults making online solicitation of minors is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau at 731-425-8400.
