JACKSON, Tenn- An announcement on Wednesday from the U.S. Postal Service, could affect everyone, as they’re proposing another price hike on stamps and other market dominant products. Officials said the increase could generate more than $2 billion in new revenue, and locals said they’re hoping this means fewer branches closing and more jobs being saved. “It’s like everything else, prices keep going up,” David Westover said, who bought a book of stamps after the announcement had been made. The U.S. Postal Service proposed a three cent increase, which would raise the price from 46 cents per stamp to 49 cents. The proposed hike could also affect postcards and overnight mail prices, adding billions in revenue and possibly preventing some local post offices from shutting down. “It’s all about money,” Westover said. Last year, 62 Tennessee branches were listed at risk of closing. Customers hope the proposed hike could keep the doors open and postal workers on the job.
