CAMDEN, Tenn. – In Benton County, school resource officers as well as Cross Gate Bus Services kicked off a two-day effort to keep kids safe while riding the school bus. Students from multiple schools were taught what to do not only when riding the school bus but when they are getting on and off the bus, as well. Students throughout the county met with “Buster the Bus,” who taught them how to approach the school bus, how to leave the bus, and proper behaviors while on it. “How kids behave on the bus has a lot to do with how safe the bus actually is,” said Officer James Inman of the Camden Police Department. Tennessee had 14 incidents within 10 feet of school buses in 2012, one of them in Camden. Officials say the goal of the goal was to bring that number down this school year.
