Man sentenced to 20 years in assault on wife

MADISON, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say man in Madison County has been sentenced as a habitual offender to 20 years in prison for an assault on his wife.
Michael Guest, district attorney for Madison and Rankin counties, says in a news release Thursday that Marvin Kirk must serve his sentence without the possibility of probation, parole or early release.
Guest says the Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call on Jan. 26 and the woman told deputies that Kirk assaulted her and choked her to the point where she lost consciousness.
