Educator of the Week: Katie Moore
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Katie Moore is a Kindergarten teacher at Selmer Elementary School.
“I’ve always loved children, so I love working with kids, and I wanted to do elementary education ’cause I just love the lightbulb moments that you get to see with the kids and them learning new things,” Moore said.
Moore describes why working at Selmer Elementary is particularly special to her.
“I went to school here, so this is kind of an all the way around situation, but I had teachers all through my career who I could tell that they loved me, I could tell that they cared, and I could tell that they wanted what was best for me, and so that really solidified me knowing what I wanted to do,” said Moore.
This is now Moore’s third year teaching, and she shares her hope for students.
“I always want my students to know that I care and I think, starting out with that, when they know that you care, then everything else is just gonna fall into place,” she said.
For future educators, Moore offers advice and encouragement.
“I would say to make your classroom your own, and to just go in every day with a clean slate and do your best. Show the kids that you love them, and everything else is gonna fall into place.”
Moore is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
