JACKSON, Tenn.- Jackson Police tripled their normal number of officers on the streets in Hub City in response to the five shootings in East Jackson, Tuesday. Officers walked through East Pointe Apartment Complex and Lincoln Courts Circle Tuesday night where two separate homicides occurred just hours apart. “All of this shooting going on, any of us could be standing outside and they just come through here shooting and we just innocent bystanders that just got shot for no reason,” said Lincoln Courts resident Lashanda Wilkes. Officials said officers are working overtime, overlapping their shifts to increase patrols in the city’s most troubled areas. Officials said more than 55 officers as opposed to their normal 18 are working in the streets to generate leads. “It makes me feel safer it really does I think its really needed,” said resident Shanda Dotson, East Pointe Apartment Complex. The response is similar to the department’s “Check Mate” saturation operations. Residents said the gun violence near their homes is out of control with shootings and homicides happening in broad daylight. Families living in Lincoln Courts said they are desperate for protection. “It’s just too much going on people don’t here think about these kids out here there are some innocent kids here and people don’t care.” said Wilkes. “We need more patrols out here, I’m scared to come outside I can’t believe I’m out here right now talking to y’all.” “I think it’s a bunch of senseless stuff going on across town and I think the violence just needs to stop. There are children out here and families that have to live here,” Dotson said. Officials said there is also a team working to piece together information about each shooting victim, to see if any of the five shootings are connected. “I think what it’s going to take is for the community to stand together and if you know anything seen anything let it be known,” said Dotson. “Don’t be scared because you have to live here.” Police are not saying if any of the shootings are connected. No arrests have been made, if you have any information in this case call Jackson Police at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-TIPS ( 8477)
