Lexington City Council discusses new park, more in monthly meeting
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Lexington City Council members made decisions on several agenda items discussed Monday night.
Board members approve to move forward with further development in the community with a new depot park.
We spoke with outgoing Lexington Mayor Jeff Griggs that tells us about what the local community can expect in the next several months.
“It’s going to be our first neighborhood park that we’ve had. All of our other parks have been like out at Guy B. Amis Park around the ballpark, so this is going to be in a neighborhood. We’re so excited about getting that done. Tonight, unfortunately, we got a little bit of a delay, and that’s what’s happening a lot across the country. People order things and there are backorders or whatever, but tonight we grant an extension,” said Mayor Griggs.
The new park is expected to be open by spring of next year. The board of aldermen also votes to hire another law enforcement officer to maintain safety in the community.
“You have to be fully staffed and we are living in a time where it’s hard to find people that want to be a police officer anymore. Anytime we get the opportunity to have a vacancy, and have somebody willing to fill it we’re excited about that too,” said Mayor Griggs.
In more discussed on the agenda tonight, board members are still deciding on an official opioid settlement resolution to move forward.
“We definitely want to put that money where we can help the community especially people in our community that want to change their life,” said Mayor Griggs.
Mayor Griggs tells us he is optimistic in their efforts to improve the quality of life for Lexington residents.
“Lexington is a great town. We have great people that live here. We just announced another industry about a week ago here. Come up here, spend a little tax dollars with us, eat at our restaurants and have a good time,” said Mayor Griggs.
In one of the last orders of business the discussion for a tax freeze was tabled Monday night for the next meeting to gain insight from an advised specialist to speak with the board.
