At the time of the shooting, the home was occupied by four people, no one inside was hit. Police said shell casings were recovered from the scene. Officers said they spotted a car believed to be involved in the shooting and attempted to stop it. The car took off and crashed into a utility pole on Lexington Avenue following a brief chase with police. A 16-year-old male passenger was thrown from the car. Officers said three other males now identified as Gray, Mackey and Long all fled from the car and got away. The driver, Shenequa Ross, was taken into custody at the crash scene for questioning. the 16-year-old was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Officers said they recovered three guns from the crashed car that matched shell casings found at the shooting scene on Holland. Police said the juvenile who was thrown from the car was transported to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. As of Wednesday, the teen is in stable condition. Police anticipate filing charges on him upon his release. Corey Gray, who was a person of interest in Monday night’s shooting, surrendered around noon Tuesday at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex on charges related to a Saturday shooting on the Madison County Sheriff’s Department parking lot. That shooting injured one man and one five-year-old little girl. During the ongoing investigation, investigators searched a home at 123 Walsh Street around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday. Evidence was gathered from the home. Casey Mackey and Hentrick Long were both taken into custody for questioning. Officers said they believe Ross drove Gray, Mackey, Long and the 16-year-old to Holland Ave, and they participated in shooting the house. Police are releasing Long’s name because he was previously transferred from juvenile to adult court. Judge Christy Little ruled that Long could be tried as an adult for a shooting on March 6, where Long shot a 23-year-old man with a shotgun in the apartment complex at 33 Carver Ave. Long was charged with attempted first-degree murder for that shooting and was previously released on $25,000 bond. Prosecutors said they will seek to have Long’s bond revoked in light of the new attempted first-degree murder charge. Investigators have linked all five people inside of the crashed car to the city’s ninth shooting on Holland Ave. Officials would not say if any of the suspects are connected to the previous Holland Ave. shooting or any other shootings in the city’s over the past week. “We definitely believe that there is some type of connection…now we’re still trying to determine what that is,” said Capt. Tyreece Miller, of the Jackson Police Dept. Officers said the home on Holland Ave. was first shot into last Tuesday, just 90 minutes after the shooting death of Alexander Merriweather who was gunned down in East Pointe Apartments Nov. 5. “The first one occurred back on November 5th at 1:20 in the morning and that was just a little while after Alexander Merriweather was killed at East Pointe Apartments, so we do believe these shootings at Holland Ave are in connection to that homicide,” said Deputy Chief Barry Michael of the Jackson Police Department. Corey Gray who is already linked to Saturday’s shooting at the sheriff’s department was named the fifth shooting suspect in the second Holland Ave. shooting. Officers would not say if the what happened at the sheriff’s department is connected to gun violence on Holland Ave. “There are several shootings that we’re are looking at and we’re looking at each and every one individually,” said Capt. Miller. “There have been multiple shootings night after night and so we’re not naive to think that with this one arrest, we’re going to solve all of them because this is a very complex investigation. We have multiple investigators working around the clock…our entire department is committed to curbing the violence.” The investigation is ongoing.
