JACKSON, Tenn. — A judge formally charged four suspects on Thursday in connection with a Monday night shooting in Jackson. One of the suspects admitted in court he belongs to a gang. According to affidavits, all four suspects admitted to being involved in the shooting. A judge charged Corey Gray, Hentrick Long, Casey Mackey, and Shenqua Ross with attempted first degree murder, on Thursday. Officers say the group shot up a house on Holland Avenue on Monday night. It was Gray‘s second court appearance in two days on two separate attempted murder charges. “I don’t understand how I got two of them,” Gray said. Gray was officially charged with attempted murder and four counts of aggravated assault on Wednesday. Officers say he shot two people in the parking lot of the Madison County Sheriff‘s Office last Saturday. The judge asked Gray if he had a drug or alcohol problem. “I mean I drink,” said Gray. “I smoke reefer, that’s it.” According to affidavits, Mackey and Gray both admitted to shooting at the house on Holland Avenue. The judge asked each suspect if he or she is in a gang. All denied it except Mackey, who admitted to being a Crip. The 17-year-old, Hentrick Long, will be tried as an adult for a March shooting. He was out on bond on that attempted first degree murder charge at the time of the Holland Avenue shooting. Officers say Ross drove the getaway car the night of the Holland Avenue shooting. The car crashed into a utility pole, and ejected a 16-year-old passenger. Police plan to file charges against him once he is out of the hospital. All four suspects will be held on $500,000 bond. No one was injured in the shooting on Holland Avenue. Shenqua Ross is charged with attempted first degree murder, felony evading by motor vehicle, felony evading, unlawful possession of firearms, no proof of insurance, and reckless driving. Corey Gray is charged with attempted first degree murder and evading arrest. Casey Mackey is charged with attempted first degree murder, evading arrest, and simple possession of marijuana. Hentrick Long is charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder and evading arrest. All four suspects are due back in court Nov. 21.
