Pedestrian hit by train, investigation underway

BENTON COUNTY, Tenn.—One person has died after being struck by a train.

According to initial reports, an individual was struck by a train around 1:30 p.m. close to Old Highway 70 outside Camden. Witnesses told investigators that an individual was lying across the tracks and failed to move as the train approached. The train was unable to stop.

The individual has not yet been identified.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.

We reached out to CSX and received the following statement.

“At approximately 2:19 p.m. ET on Nov. 16, a CSX train came in contact with a trespasser located on the tracks near Old TN-70 in Camden, Tennessee. 

Benton County Central Dispatch Center was notified and emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene and later reported that the individual was fatally injured. There were no injuries to the train crew.

CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident and will continue to support local law enforcement as they complete the investigation.”
