Ford, SK On to dissolve $11B battery-making venture in 2026

JACKSON, Tenn. — According to Reuters, SK On, a South Korean battery maker, announced on Thursday that it has come to an agreement with Ford Motor to dissolve their $11 billion joint battery venture across three U.S. factories, including one in Tennessee.

As part of the agreement, Ford will take full ownership of two Kentucky plants while SK On will take on the Stanton, Tennessee location.

The Stanton location, known as BlueOval City, was created in 2022 and has since seen a handful of production delays. The most recent delay made earlier this year by Ford saw the pause of electric pickup truck production till 2028.

It is unclear if SK On will continue with a similar production timeline.

BlueOval City includes Ford’s Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center and several other suppliers, with the BlueOval SK Battery Plant as one of them.

We reached out to officials with BlueOval City for comment, but they were not immediately available. Stay tuned on air and online for further developments.
