Businessman purchases battlefield plot
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) – A Middle Tennessee businessman has purchased a plot of land where the Battle of Franklin was fought during the Civil War.
The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/HZJYl7) reports the former coin-operated car wash on the nearly half-acre lot will be razed by preservationists and turned into green space.
Heller who bought the property while discussions were ongoing about the possibility of redeveloping the property to accommodate townhomes.
The newspaper reports it is the latest piece of property where the Battle of Franklin occurred nearly 150 years ago to be purchased for green space. Preservationists have been slowly purchasing property in an aim to create a Columbia Avenue Civil War battlefield park.
