Travelers hit the roads for holiday season

JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s the most festive time of the year and many are celebrating with friends and family this holiday season.

Love’s Travel Stop is a popular spot where drivers stop to fuel up or simply take a break.

Carl Smith, an employee at Love’s, says he arrived to work at about six o’clock Christmas morning to start his holiday.

He describes his plans for when he gets off work.

“After work today, I’ll be going home and meeting with family,” Smith said. “I think we’re going to actually pull out the old grill since it’s 70 plus degrees.”

Love’s also provides a meal to all of their employees to celebrate.

Many motorists travel a couple of days before the holidays to get to their destinations, however there are some that travel the day of.

Tom and Kim Neal are from Nashville and they are traveling to Pinson to visit family to have a holiday meal.

“Just for lunch and I think they are going to have a fish fry later,” they said.

Love’s expects to see around one thousand travelers on Christmas, however travel is expected to increase in the next coming days.

According to AAA, around 109.5 million people across the country are expected to travel by car during this season.

With this statistic, around 2.6 million Tennesseans plan to travel on the roads.

AAA also recommends traveling before eleven in the morning the next few days to avoid heavier traffic.
