Local Ice Rink Reopens, Announces NYE Celebration
LEXINGTON, Tenn — Now that Christmas has wrapped up, the ice rink in Downtown Lexington is opening again for the weekend. Skating was open from 5 to 9 Friday evening with refreshments from H-Tea-O available for purchase.
Everyone is welcome to come skate Saturday from 1P.M. – 9 P.M. and 1 P.M. – 5 P.M. Sunday. The surface of the ice is synthetic so it’s not very slick, but skate blades glide along the surface well. Real ice would’ve been very expensive to use since temperatures have been near record highs this week. Synthetic ice is easier to learn to skate on because it doesn’t act the same way as ice when in contact with a skate blade.
Coming up next week, the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce has announced plans for a New Year’s Eve celebration starting at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday. The event will feature a balloon drop at midnight. The ice rink and the New Year’s Eve celebration are all at the new Farmers Market located at 68 First Street in Lexington.
If you do attend, there is a waiver you’ll need to sign to be able to put on a pair of skates.
