BBB warns of lawyer impersonators looking to re-victimize scam victims
JACKSON, Tenn. — Being scammed once is unfortunate enough, but some impersonators are hoping they can strike twice.

The Better Business Bureau says scam victims are being re-victimized by scammers that are impersonating lawyers.
This common law firm scam seeks to exploit victims who have already lost money by promising to help them recover lost funds.
These phony lawyers contact victims on social media or other messaging platforms and claim they are authorized to help — however, the victims are asked to pay a fee to recover their funds, and then the so-called lawyers disappear.
Toddnetta Trice with the BBB of the Mid-South tells us some signs to watch out for.
“So if you never pretty much expose your information, or put anything down on social media letting them know like ‘Hey, I’ve been scammed,’ and you get that random phone call from a law firm saying ‘Hey, I can help you recover your money,’ — red, red flag. How did they know that you lost any money? You never told anyone,” Trice said.
Trice says the FBI will attempt to help individuals who have lost over $40,000 if you contact them within 72 hours of losing the funds. Click here for more information.
