Trenton residents gather for annual MLK Day celebration
TRENTON, Tenn. — One local town holds its annual celebration for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

First Baptist Church North in Trenton hosted the service following a celebration and march from the Gibson County Courthouse.
This year’s theme is “Better Days are Coming.”
“Because that’s what we live for–for everything to get better for us and not to go back. That’s how come this celebration that we do for MLK is so important to us,” said Sonja Dodd, event organizer.
The march arrived at FBCN shortly before 11 a.m. with an escort from Trenton Police Department.
Trenton Mayor Tony Burriss was one of many guest speakers. He announced it would be his last Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration as mayor, as he has decided to not run for re-election.
“We like to commemorate dr. King and everything he meant to this country and I was saying this morning that the farther we get from his assassination the more we realize how important he was to this country,” said Mayor Burriss.
Inside the service, several guest speakers shared testimonies, music was provided by a church band and the Gibson County Community Choir.

Scripture readings and sermons from pastors Stanley Montgomery and Gerald Thomas. The ceremony closed with the popular anthem James Weldon Johnson’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Several organizations were present promoting their youth programs in the area.
