Utility companies preparing for winter weather

JACKSON, Tenn. — This weekend’s winter storm has the potential to bring power outages.

Freezing temperatures, strong precipitation, and ice over powerlines can all contribute to outages.

Some outages, depending on the county, can last anywhere from minutes to days.

Clint Malone with Southwest Tennessee Electric tells us how they’re preparing.

“We cover ten counties, nearly four thousand miles aligned, with such a wide area we definitely anticipate outages, but you know, we’ve positioned personnel, equipment, material, so that we can ensure, we can safely and efficiently restore power even if conditions impact our system,” Malone said.

To aid in reporting outages, Southwest Tennessee Electric also wants to remind members to update their contact information.
