DYER COUNTY, Tenn-Leslie Peevyhouse and her daughter have only one snake left after they said someone killed five of their pet snakes, including a Boa and several pythons, kept in an outdoor shed. “It’s like losing family members all at once,” Peevyhouse said. She said she was doing her daily check-in when she realized the necks of five of her six snakes had been broken. “I can’t describe it,” Peevyhouse said. “it’s just like having a baby and having it ripped out of your arms.” Peevyhouse and her daughter said the snakes were like part of their family, especially the one they’ve had for more than three years, a Guyana Red Tail BOA, that cost about $3500. “When I was upset he would curl up by my face and go to sleep with me,” Kecura, Peevyhouse’s daughter said. They’ve filed a report with the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department and investigators said the person responsible could face jail time on aggravated animal cruelty charges; but for now Peevyhouse and her daughter are burying the five snakes as they wait for justice.
