Former Memphis officer charged in Ala assault
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A former Tennessee police officer who resigned after fatally shooting a teenager is charged with rape and sodomy in Alabama.
WAAY-TV (http://bit.ly/1doOF60 ) reports that 29-year-old Terrance Shaw is charged in an alleged attack on a woman at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville.
Shaw resigned from the police department in Memphis, Tenn., earlier this year after an administrative review of the fatal shooting of a teenager in September 2012.
Shaw was off-duty when he shot and killed Justin Thompson during what he said was a robbery attempt.
Prosecutors declined to pursue charges after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation finished a review. But the departmental hearing raised questions about Shaw’s conduct, and he resigned.
Court records show Shaw is free on bond and doesn’t yet have a defense lawyer.
