Residents raise awareness for ‘National Wear Red Day’ in downtown Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Friday, residents gathered to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of women in the U.S.

Friday, the American Heart Association hosted a National Wear Red Day breakfast in downtown Jackson to kick off American Heart Month and increase awareness for the dangers of heart disease and stroke.

From landmarks to online communities, neighborhoods to news anchors, this annual groundswell unites millions of people for a common goal: saving more women’s lives.

“1-in-3 deaths of women are because of cardiovascular disease. So when we wear red we can start conversations about women’s health. And encourage people to give, and to get involved, and to get checkups, and learn about their own health,” said Melissa Pratt, survivor of heart disease.

The event was held this morning at the LIFT Wellness Center in Jackson walk plaza.
