Mark Covington announces run for Haywood County sheriff
PRESS RELEASE FROM MARK COVINGTON:
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — Mark Covington has announced his run for Sheriff of Haywood County.
Hi, my name is Mark Covington. I am running for Sheriff of Haywood County. I am happily married to my wife (Cindy Covington) of over 41 years. I have one daughter (Teresa Covington) and 3 grandkids (Destini 13, Karson 7, and Kobe 3). I have always been proud of my Country, county and city to the point that my family hosted thirteen (13) exchange students from 5 different counties.
Aside from twenty (20) years of honorable service in the United States Navy, I have been a lifelong resident of Haywood County since the age of five. My experience includes twenty (20) years naval service, twenty-three (23+) years of proudly serving my community in law enforcement for the great city of Brownsville (MY HOME TOWN), and a year and a half serving the residents of Haywood County as Emergency Management Agency (EMA) as Director – not, for recognition, but because protecting our community and families matters.
I believe in community-first policing—being present, approachable, and fair strong moral conviction guided by my faith, and a deep respect for the belief in the dignity of every individual in Haywood County. Public safety isn’t just about enforcing laws; it’s about building trust, supporting victims, and preventing crime before it happens.
With proven leadership, unwavering integrity, and deep roots in this county, I am ready to serve as your Sheriff from day one—bringing fair and steady leadership, accountability, and common-sense solutions back to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
I truly believe that every resident should be able to directly reach their Sheriff. That is why I will proudly provide all residents with my personal cell phone number and email address. I believe I cannot effectively serve the community unless I know where we are doing right and where we are falling short. From day one, I will maintain an open-door policy for all Haywood County residents—something that has been missing for the past decade. My number is (731) 432-0206. This number hasn’t changed in over two decades and will not change when I’m Sheriff. My email is: bpd0270@gmail.com I truly want to hear where we are doing well and where we are falling short.
Ask the Sheriff and Chief Deputy for their phone numbers so they can be reached when it matters most. That is the right and responsible thing for them to do.
