Jackson’s 4th annual Neighborhood Academy program now accepting applications
JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson has announced the return of its Neighborhood Academy program, now in its fourth year, with applications currently open to residents.

Community Development Director Claire Pierson said the program is designed to connect residents with city departments and staff.
“This is a 7-month program for residents in Jackson to get more involved in the city and learn more about our departments, so they know who to call and when to call them, and just really get to know our city and our staff,” Pierson said.

The program is open to any Jackson resident. Sessions are held twice a month, with scheduling determined based on applicant availability.
“This is for any resident in Jackson. It’s twice a month, so we have those dates listed. As we get applications, we’ll go with the timeframe that works best for everyone,” Pierson said.
The application deadline is March 18. Pierson said the program has grown each year and now includes visits to city facilities beyond city hall.
“We’ve learned more every year, so it’s a little bit different every year. The first year was all here at city hall, and as we’ve moved on, we’ve done field trips. We go to the police department so people can see firsthand what happens there. We do the same at the fire department and parks and recreation, so it changes a little bit every year,” Pierson said.
The program began after residents expressed interest in learning how local government operates. To learn more or to submit an application, click here.
