Educator of the Week: Nicole Claybrooks

MILAN, Tenn. — It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Nicole Claybrooks or Niki is a preschool teacher at Milan Elementary School.

She comes from a long line of educators and decided to follow in their footsteps.

“I wanted to become a teacher because education was a very important part of my life growing up. My mom was an educator, my grandmother was an educator. And so that for me was an excellent profession and a rewarding profession to help children grow, develop, and learn,” said Claybrooks.

Claybrooks has been teaching for over 26 years.

She says using movement and sound is necessary to keep preschool kids engaged.

“I enjoy music and movement. Children learn best by doing. They love rhythm, they love sound. And so I love adding music to all of my teaching strategies and my lessons that I prepare for my students,” said Claybrooks.

She encourages anyone who is interested in education to go for it.

“I would say it is the greatest profession ever. You will make such a great impact on the lives of children. I encourage everyone to go into education, love what you do, persevere, and know that you can do all things,” said Claybrooks.

Claybrooks ends by sharing her gratitude for being nominated for educator of the week.

“This was a wonderful experience. I’m honored. I love my school district. I love my students, and I’m so thankful. And thank you, WBBJ,” said Claybrooks.

Claybrooks is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. To vote for her or any other nominees, go to the Tennessee Education Lottery website.
