Union City firefighter taken to hospital after ‘firefighter down’ call during house fire; TBI arson investigation requested
SOUTH FULTON, Tenn. — A Union City firefighter was taken to the emergency room as a precaution early Thursday after crews responded to a working rural residential structure fire in the Union City Fire Department (UCFD) rural fire protection district, just outside South Fulton.
UCFD said crews were dispatched around 5 a.m. Thursday. Mutual aid was requested, with assistance responding from the South Fulton Fire Department, Fulton Fire Department, Rives Fire Department, Troy Fire Department, and the Obion County Sheriff’s Office. Additional units from Weakley County, possibly including the Martin Fire Department, were also requested.
During fire suppression operations, UCFD Command 4044 reported “Firefighter Down.” The firefighter was quickly located, evaluated by personnel on scene, and transported to the emergency room as a precaution.
Officials said the firefighter was alert, conscious, and talking while being transported.
6:23 a.m. update
UCFD Chief 4100 ordered an arson investigation from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), according to a 6:23 a.m. update.
Officials said the fire is out. No additional details were released about the firefighter’s condition beyond that he is OK.
Crews remained on scene Thursday morning conducting overhaul operations. Additional updates were expected as information becomes available.
