Affidavit: Caregiver accused of hitting nonverbal autistic man several times, threatening more abuse

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — A former in-home caregiver has been arrested and accused of abusing a vulnerable adult in her care.

Cumekia Conner was taken into custody March 17 and booked into the Madison County Jail following an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

How the investigation began

The TBI received a referral from the Department of Disability and Aging and began investigating allegations against Conner. The investigation followed videos that may have been posted to social media and could be related to the case.

During the investigation, TBI agents gathered evidence indicating physical and verbal abuse of a male victim described as an intellectually disabled TennCare patient.

Agents obtained an arrest warrant before taking Conner into custody.

WBBJ received three videos of the alleged incident but is still working to confirm their validity and relation to the aforementioned incident.

Efforts to contact the facility where the incident is said to have taken place, and its corporate office, had not been returned at the time of this report.
