Dyer County deputies arrest man on drug charges after K-9 alerts to narcotics

FINLEY, Tenn. — A Dyer County man faces multiple drug charges after a K-9 alerted to narcotics during a traffic stop in Finley, according to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office.

K-9 Deputy Justin Jones and Investigator Jeremy Caldwell were conducting routine patrol on Highway 104 West when Jones conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Explorer near the intersection of Highway 104 West and Shannon Street, the sheriff’s office said. The stop was initiated due to an active warrant on the registered driver and an expired vehicle registration.

During the stop, Jones’s K-9 partner, Max, conducted a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and provided a positive alert for the presence of narcotics, according to the sheriff’s office.

A search of the vehicle revealed narcotics concealed behind the center console.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, John Dustin Morris, 42, was placed under arrest and charged with:

  • Possession of Schedule II methamphetamine with intent to sell or deliver
  • Possession of Schedule II fentanyl with intent to sell or deliver
  • Possession of Schedule I ecstasy with intent to sell or deliver a
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Deputies seized 82 grams of methamphetamine, a quarter of a gram of fentanyl and 34 ecstasy pills, according to the sheriff’s office.
