Scottie Joe Coleman
Scottie was born on July 4, 1952 in Parsons, Tennessee, to the late Alvis Jennings “Ed” Coleman and Maggie Nell Davis Coleman. He grew up alongside his four brothers, Eddie, AJ, Russell, and James Coleman, and his sister, Tessie Coleman Simms, forming a close-knit family that remained important throughout his life.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Scottie was employed with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad before later retiring from PCA – Packaging Corporation of America. He took great pride in his work, but nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent with his family.
Scottie’s greatest passion in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Coleman.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, Paula Finley Coleman; his children, Michelle Bryant and Adam Coleman; and his beloved grandchildren, Rebecca Paige Russell, Blake Robert Russell Coleman, Chase Daniel Bryant, Charles Jackson Bryant, and Carlie Elizabeth Bryant.
He is also survived by his siblings, Eddie Coleman, AJ Coleman, James Coleman, and Tessie Coleman Simms; as well as several nieces and nephews, Ken “Buddy” Coleman, Karen “Katie” Miller, Kevin Coleman, Jason Coleman, Rusty Coleman, Becky Coleman Smith, Kelly Coleman, and Dusty Simms.
A service to celebrate the life of Scottie Coleman will be conducted on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Aldersgate Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Cooksey officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Chase Daniel Bryant, Charles Jackson Bryant, Blake Robert Russell Coleman, and Matt Thomson. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Eddie Coleman, AJ Coleman, and James Coleman.
Scottie will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong work ethic, and most of all, the deep love he had for his family.
