Union University holds final service in G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel
JACKSON, Tenn. — Union University is saying goodbye to a campus landmark.

The school held its final chapel service in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel this morning, capping off more than 50 years of worship and campus gatherings in that space.

The chapel, built in 1975 as part of the Penick Academic Complex, will be demolished after the spring semester to make room for a new, detached worship center.
Union broke ground April 10 on a $30 million, 32,000-square-foot, 1,500-seat chapel.
“While the new chapel is being built, we’ll hold chapel in our gymnasium. It’s really exciting, you know, just the ability for Union to progress and to advance our campus community. It’s a great opportunity for us and we are all very excited,” said Dr. Dub Oliver, president of Union University.
The new facility is expected to open and be dedicated in January 2028.
